Anyone who attended the opening of the exhibition “newspectives – Marine Ecosystems in Transition” in April this year may be wondering what has become of the painting installation with infusion pumps at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald (see cover image), and whether a picture actually emerges from the lengthy process of flushing out coloured saline solution.
In June, there will be two events offering visitors the chance to get an idea of the state of the painting, as well as other works of art that undergo a process of change over the course of the exhibition. On 19 June 2026, the artist Susanne Gabler, the microbiologist Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke and I will once again be offering a guided tour of the exhibition. It starts at 5 pm, but the doors of the college will open at 4.30 pm, allowing you to explore the exhibition beforehand.
The exhibition will be on display for the final time as part of the closing event, which begins at 6 pm on 25 June 2026. With the performance ‘At Mascha Kaléko’s, it’s ‘In my dreams, a storm is brewing’; in mine, the waves are crashing’ and the lecture ”Transformation and adaptation of seagrass through time, from the age of dinosaurs to the modern Baltic Sea’ by microbiologist Dr Mia Bengsston, this final evening will be another highlight in the “newspectives” programme of events. You are warmly invited!

Here is an overview of upcoming events:
- 19 June 2026 at 5 pm: Guided tour of the exhibition with Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke, Susanne Gabler and Astrid Brünner
- 25 June 2026 at 6 pm: Closing event with performance ‘Mascha Kaléko says, ‘In my dreams, a storm is brewing’; in mine, the waves are crashing’ and guest lecture ‘Transformation and adaptation of seagrass through time, from the age of dinosaurs to the modern Baltic Sea’ by microbiologist Dr Mia Bengsston
The exhibition is supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, Essen; the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Bonn; the Universität Greifswald; the Fonds des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern für Vorpommern und das östliche Mecklenburg and the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur, Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
