Metabolat – Artistic scientific research on marine transformation processes: Exhibition programme starts on 11 July 20

The time has finally come! On 11 July 2025, the exhibition ‘Metabolat’ will open at 7 pm in the Koeppenhaus in Greifswald. The artistic and scientific exhibition project focuses on marine transformation processes. This highly topical subject is being adressed by the scientist Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke, microbiologist at the University of Greifswald (pharmaceutical biotechnology), and the artists Susanne Gabler from Wismar (word art, installation, object) and Astrid Brünner from Greifswald (painting, performance, dance) in an interdisciplinary collaboration. The artworks and knowledge-sharing formats resulting from this ongoing collaboration will be presented on several dates as part of the exhibition programme at the Koeppenhaus in Greifswald.

The results of two years of experimentation, learning and exchange will be presented. The exhibition includes installations, paintings, word art and video. Audio contributions by scientists whose research relates to the sea are also integrated into the exhibition. All contributions refer to the project theme and offer different perspectives on our marine waters.

The opening evening starts with the interdisciplinary performance ‘Bei Mascha Kaléko heißt es ‘In meinen Träumen läutet es Sturm’ In meinen schlagen die Wellen‘ in the event hall of the Koeppenhaus on the upper floor. Two lecture performances are also planned as part of the exhibition programme. The first will take place on 18 July 2025 on the topic of ‘unsweet candy – Molecular cuisine with algae sugars‘. As part of the finissage on 22 August 2025, a second lecture performance will be shown in cooperation with biochemist Dr Christina C. Roggatz from the University of Bremen (Dynamic Ecological Chemistry), entitled ‘Constant change – The changing molecular language of the ocean’.

The exhibition will be on display from 14 July to 22 August 2025.
The gallery is open from Tuesday to Friday from 2pm to 6pm.
