newspectives: Watch the lecture performance online on 16 April 2026 at 6 pm

The time has finally come! The exhibition ‘newspecitives – Marine Ecosystems in Transition’ will open on Thursday, 16 April 2026 at 6 pm with the lecture performance ‘unsweet candy – Molecular Cuisine with Algal Sugars’ at the Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald. However, anyone unable to attend in person will have the opportunity to stream the lecture performance and follow at least this part of the event online. The access link will be made available free of charge on the institute’s website.

Incidentally, the cover photo shows a close-up view of a protein model created by Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke (3D printing: Julius Krause). This will play an important role in our lecture performance.

Microbiologist Dr Marie-Katherin Zühlke, artist Susanne Gabler and I have been working together since 2023, developing presentation formats that promote the communication of scientific content and foster an engaging dialogue. The focus is on transformation processes in our oceans caused or accelerated by human influence, as well as questions about how we as humanity deal with them.

Further opportunities to visit the exhibition are provided by our guided tours, which will be led by the three of us on 30 April 2026 and 19 June 2026, both at 5 pm.

On 25 June 2026 from 6 pm, we will open the exhibition with our performance ‘At Mascha Kaléko’s, the motto is ‘In my dreams, a storm is brewing’ In mine, the waves crash‘ and the lecture ‘Transformation and adaptation of seagrass through time, from the age of dinosaurs to the modern Baltic Sea’ by microbiologist Dr Mia Bengsston (University of Greifswald). Further information can be found in the calendar of events of the Alfried Krupp Kolleg.

The exhibition is supported by the Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach-Stiftung, Essen; the German Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Bonn; the Universität Greifswald; the Fonds des Landes Mecklenburg-Vorpommern für Vorpommern und das östliche Mecklenburg and the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Kultur, Bundes- und Europaangelegenheiten Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

The Alfried Krupp Wissenschaftskolleg Greifswald is an academically independent institution
under the auspices of the Stiftung Alfried Krupp Kolleg Greifswald.
