On the last summer weekend of this year, I arranged to meet my dance class on the beach in Eldena near Greifswald. Inspired by the warm sunshine, the fresh breeze and the refreshing wetness on our skin, we improvised a dance, as shown in the video still above.
The experiences of dancing and improvising outdoors are naturally influenced by the sounds, smells and visual impressions we perceive on site. We absorb them and express them immediately in our movements. Below the next paragraph, you will find a short video with a few sequences from our dance improvisation. How exciting it is to transfer these experiences indoors and continue exploring them! We will continue and meet again in autumn in the dance room of the Kunstwerkstätten – every Sunday from 5 to 7 pm.
In recent months, we have been exploring topics such as weight transfer and weight-bearing. We will continue with this theme. We will try out different exercise sequences to see how I can take advantage of opportunities for lifting in free dance and how I can create them myself. Solo contact improvisation will also play a role in the next six months of dance. I will discuss why we need this and how we can use it to shape our collective dance.
Do you already have experience with contact and dance improvisation and would like to join in? Register here and come to the dance class on Sunday! Would you like to find out what contact improvisation is all about and try it out first? Please let me know by email and come along for a trial lesson!
